Johnston Street, in Lafayette, Louisiana was developed over many decades and in a much less regulated environment. As a result, it is today in places too narrow, green spaces are few, signs, utility poles and lines clutter the view and traffic flows poorly. Those were the times.
Recognizing that Johnston Street was in sore need of modernization, the LCG, to its credit, undertook a serious effort beginning in 2001 to establish a vision for the redevelopment of Johnston Street to ensure its viability in the future. Its objective was to formulate a comprehensive redevelopment plan, having as its purpose to modernize Johnston Street and ensure its future role as a vital business and traffic arterial within the community.
